NiMet predictions: AFAN Kano cautions farmers on safety measures

The Kano State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has cautioned farmers in the state to take precautionary measures against plausible flooding as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) to avert losses during this year’s wet season farming.

The call was made by the state AFAN chairman, Alhani Abdulrasheed Magaji Rimin Gado, during an exclusive chat with Daily Trust on Sunday.

According to him, farmers should take the warning seriously in order to avert what happened during last year’s wet season.

He explained that farmers had incurred losses last year due to the flooding, adding that strict adherence to the agency’s warning through the adoption of preventive mechanisms will save the situation.

“We have seen how farmers lost huge sums of money to last year’s flooding and we wouldn’t want a repetition of such incident. At the association level, we are doing all that is possible to see that we caution our members as well as encourage them to adopt the measures lined up for a better wet season in 2023,” he said.

The state AFAN chairman also called on the incoming state government to, as a matter of urgency, reintroduce subsidized fertilizer police among other interventions.
