Al-Habibiyyah charges Tinubu, others to tackle poverty, inflation

By Abbas Jimoh & Dalhatu Liman

The Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society (AIS) has urged the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other elected leaders to prioritise tackling hunger, poverty, inflation and other socioeconomic challenges facing the nation.

The National Chief Imam of the society, Sheik Fuad

Adeyemi, made the call on Sunday in Abuja at the 20th National Unity Ramadan Lecture of the society with the theme, “Ramadan Lesson: Inspiration for reform.”.

“It is clearly seen by the blind and so audible by the deaf that there is poverty in the land; people are hungry and angry, inflation is so high and recently we started using naira to buy naira. He (Tinubu) needs to work hard to reverse these unholy trends. Tinubu’s victory didn’t come to us as a surprise; he is known to be a talent hunter, a cerebral and compassionate leader.

“His tenacity and focus is enviable; his victory is testament of his years of investment in people and relationships,” Adeyemi said.

He assured that AlHabibiyyah would give all the necessary support to the incoming government as instructed in the glorious Qur’an.

He also said that the society had been feeding at least 2,000 people, including non-Muslims, daily since the commencement of the Ramadan as part of efforts to ease difficulties among the less privileged.

The guest lecturer and Director, International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, Bayero University, Kano, Prof.

Usman Muhammad Shu’aib, noted that one of the successes of the wealthy nations is even distribution of wealth such that every citizen is catered for by the society in one way or another.

According to him, Muslims must not pass through Ramadan without allowing Ramadan to pass through them too to enable them to acquire all the necessary lessons and benefits of the blessed month.
