Kidnapping: Kaduna villagers lament indiscriminate arrests by troops

By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

Residents of Janjala community in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State have lamented over what they describe as indiscriminate arrests of indigenes by troops.

City & Crime recalls that after several reports of abductions by suspected bandits published in Daily Trust, troops in the past weeks raided Janjala and Kagarko town and arrested suspected bandits’ informants.

An elder in Janjala community, who preferred anonymity, while speaking with our reporter on Tuesday, said seven indigenes of the community were arrested when the troops came to the area on Monday.

He said apart from the eight people that were whisked away two weeks ago by the troops after they suspected them to be bandits’ informants, the community was happy with the arrest of some suspects.

He said, “Actually, we are happy with the ongoing arrest of some suspected informants by the troops, as we are beginning to heave some sigh of relief, especially here in Janjala, but the way the troops are carrying out the recent raids is what is giving us a serious concern.”

The elder gave the names of those arrested by the troops in the community three days ago to include Aliyu Babangida, Isa Aliyu, Bature AabubKar, Abdulkarm Ibirahim, Abdullahi Dokari, Dare Isa and

Isa Aabbakar.

He, therefore, called on the authorities of Kagarko LGA to wade in in order to ascertain the true position of those who were arrested.

He further said, “I repeat, we quite appreciate the troops for embarking on raids and arrest of suspects, even though human beings cannot be trusted, but we want the security authorities to carry out thorough investigation on all those arrested.”
